Hacettepe University considers internationalization one of its priorities and values the unique contributions of visiting researchers to the academic community. It believes that the exchange of ideas and knowledge enriches the research environment and promotes innovation by transcending boundaries. The university is committed to providing a supportive and collaborative atmosphere for visiting researchers and aims to ensure that their time here is productive. Special importance is given to the expertise of visiting researchers and the mutual benefits brought about by collaborative academic efforts.

Visiting Researcher Program

For international visiting researchers wishing to conduct research activities at Hacettepe University for at least three months, the processes are governed by the Visiting Researcher Program Acceptance and Implementation Regulation, effective as of the Senate decision on May 30, 2024. The program is managed by the Office of External Relations and the relevant host academic unit.

Visiting researchers have access to the university library, cafeteria, information system, and all social facilities on the same terms as university staff. Provision of office space, laboratories, and necessary equipment and materials is handled by the relevant unit according to available resources. Accepted visiting researchers may, upon request and if resources allow, receive Turkish language training at the university and attend courses in graduate programs as a visitor.

The research activities of visiting researchers are monitored by the relevant academic unit through reports that must be submitted periodically by the visiting researcher.

Visiting Researcher Categories

• Senior Visiting Researcher: Professors or associate professors (or equivalent positions) working at any institution or higher education institution abroad or in Turkey, or professors or associate professors (or equivalent positions) working in the international faculty status at higher education institutions in Türkiye.
• Doctoral Visiting Researcher: Visiting researchers who hold at least a PhD, proficiency in arts, or a specialization degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or pharmacy from a domestic or Council of Higher Education (YÖK ) recognized foreign higher education institution but do not hold the title of professor or associate professor.
• Student Visiting Researcher: Visiting researchers enrolled in a master's or doctoral (or equivalent) program in Türkiye or at a higher education institution abroad recognized by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

Visiting Researcher Application and Acceptance Process

Valid applications submitted to the Office of External Relations as announced on the website are subject to a preliminary evaluation by an evaluation committee, which consists of at least three faculty members, including a chairperson, appointed by the rector for a three-year term. The committee considers the opinion of the relevant academic unit, and the final decision is made by the University Executive Board. The decision is then communicated to the applicant.
